Understanding the Impact of Vertical Canopy Position on Leaf Spectra and Traits in an Evergreen Broadleaved Forest

Little attention has been paid to the impact of vertical canopy position on leaf spectral properties tall trees, and few studies have explored ability spectra characterize variation traits across different positions. Using a tower crane, we collected samples from three layers (lower, middle, upper) measured eight (equivalent water thickness, specific area, carbon content, nitrogen phosphorus chlorophyll flavonoid, balance index) in subtropical evergreen broadleaved forest. We evaluated variability properties, as well track among for six species within entire reflectance spectrum. The results showed that were moderately or highly correlated with each other significant differences along profile. contrasting patterns light-demanding (Castanopsis chinensis, Castanopsis fissa, Schima superba, Machilus chinensis) shade-tolerant (Cryptocarya chinensis Cryptocarya concinna) at lower upper more sensitive than middle layer tracking flavonoid content.
